"I always wondered...why doesn't somebody do something about that? Then I realized... I am somebody." Lily Tomlin
I ran for County Clerk, and I lost, but while I was knocking on doors, I heard this thousands of times;
"I'm embarrassed to ask but, what is a County Clerk?" Before I ran for County Clerk, I didn’t know either, so this is my something.
I was not a politician. I was a hairdresser, I worked in the restaurant industry, and I was a single mother, so I know what it’s like to be too busy to figure it all out.
I also know how much policies impact people every day. It’s not something to leave for someone else to decide.
The most fun I had running for office was talking to people, and answering questions. And then seeing a that sense of empowerment from being given just the information they were looking for.
I also heard, "My vote doesn't count anyway...I don't have a horse in this race....Local politics doesn't matter, so I only vote for the President." Not true. Not true, and absolutely, not true.
Your vote counts in every election. If you live in a state holding an election, and if you live in a state that doesn't, you have a horse in the race. ALL government impacts you, and Prepare2Vote will tell you why, and how.
This project is about Government and elections. Just the facts, in simple terms, to prepare anyone to participate in our Democracy. Because I want a country where everyone is prepared to vote. If everybody voted, it would not matter how much money a candidate spent on a campaign. Don't laugh. I know a couple of *candidates who were outspent 6-1 and got elected. And I know a great guy who lost in his town by 11 votes, probably because it was raining.
